The city of Englewood is pursuing a redevelopment action plan that will help the area become more attractive to new residents. With the New American Community Survey Five Year Estimates being released at the end of the year, the City Development staff will update the yearly indicators chart and add new indicator data points from the five-year review list. This work program will be presented to the City Council for approval. The redevelopment action plan is part of the city's economic development program.
The City Council requested that the comprehensive plan list development accomplishments for the city. The list, which includes brief descriptions, is attached to this document. During the past two years, the city has experienced heightened interest from small businesses and real estate developers. As a result, five major residential projects have been completed in the city. Additionally, the downtown district has seen significant property ownership changes, new businesses have opened, and retail spaces were remodeled or renovated.
As part of the redevelopment efforts, the city council has allocated funding to a series of high-profile community events. These include the Summer Concert Series, Kidstage, Englewood Drama Program, Pop-Up Concerts, and Holiday Express. In addition, the city council is supporting a number of other community activities and initiatives, including the Keep Englewood Beautiful program, the House Hazardous Waste and Tire Drop-Off, the Holiday Lighting Contest, and a composting education class.
There is a great deal of recreational fun to be had in Englewood. The Devil's Head Distillery is a popular local haunt where local premium spirits can be enjoyed. Choose from the Oak Barrel Reserve Aquavit, distilled Vodka made from malted barley, and native Colorado gin. At this distillery, you can also enjoy some delicious hand-crafted cocktails while watching the sunset. The Devil's Head Distillery is located on Broadway.
The vacancy rate in Englewood Colorado has consistently been lower than the state average. During the fourth quarter of 2005, the city had a 10.9 percent vacancy rate. This number dropped to 7.9 percent by the end of 2008, and fell to 5.2 percent at the end of 2011. Although, the first quarter of 2012's data shows a slight increase, it is still considerably lower than the statewide rate. The vacancy rate in Englewood is currently at a moderate level.
The majority opinion is not consistent with Colorado law and precedent. The majority opinion relies on a broad construction of Colorado's home rule statute and fails to consider the role of local governments in regulating rent. While the majority decision upholds the Town's zoning ordinances, the trial court ignores Colorado's home rule authority. The majority ignores article XX of the Colorado Constitution, which enables local governments to 3063 S Pennsylvania St affordable housing.
